“Anorexia is Just a stupid Diet”

This is probably one of the most common misconceptions about Anorexia. Lots of people assume it’s just skinny girls that have strict diets but it’s actually a life threatening mental illness.

“You can’t Die from Bulimia”

A Bulimic is actually at a very high risk of death. Even though people with anorexia have a much higher death rate, when you have bulimia you severely damage your heart and electrolytes from purging & over exercising and you are at great risk of a sudden death.

“Boys can’t have an eating disorder”

As uncommon as it seems there are actually a lot of boys who suffer from eating disorders. Body Image concerns can also effect boys and even men and sometimes food or overexercising can be a way of release which can lead to an eating disorder.

“Eating Disorders are not an illness”

Eating disorders are actually classified as a mental illness and come hand in hand with depression, anxiety and OCD.

“Eating Disorders are just attention seeking”

Even though it might seems like someone with an eating disorder wants attention, a lot of the time they don’t actually want to be seen as having an eating disorder. It is certainly not “Attention seeking” and the sufferer mostly has deeper emotional issues.

“Not many people have an eating disorder”

Lots of eating disorders go undiagnosed as many sufferers live very secretive lives but You would be surprised how many people you know are living with this horrible, life consuming illness.

“Once you are a healthy weight,
You are recovered”

Weight recovery is a big part of recovery and is a major step forward but at the end of the day an eating disorder is a mental illness with physical consequences.

“Anorexia is the only serious eating disorder”

Every single eating disorder comes with a series of consequences and someone with binge eating disorder or Bulimia can have just as much emotional and physical damage.

“I don’t need professional help”

A lot of girls message me saying that they don’t need any professional help and that they can recover from there eating disorder by them selves but the truth is professional help and a support system is needed to fully recover.

Reblog/like if you’ve ever self harmed, had suicidal thoughts, been hospitalized for depression or self harm, been bullied, attempted suicide, been sad, dealt with self hate, felt alone, unhappy, been depressed, or you’re extremely self conscious. I want to leave every single one of you a message. I promise.

I wish I could commit suicide without hurting people.
